Basima Najeeb Mahmoud L'malah

Basima emphasized the importance of mixed-use buildings. She added uses to existing facilities rather than proposing new ones e.g., she suggested turning part of the ground floor of the mosque into a medical clinic and the other part into a kindergarten. She suggested renovating one of the old houses into a celebrations hall, and renovating the hosh* of Al L’malah to host several businesses such as a restaurant, a bakery, and others. She was attentive to providing children’s play areas in several corners of the village, and distributed kiosks. She created bus stops and a commercial complex at the center of the village that includes cafés and a gym. As for her housing, she wished to build a family compound for her and all her children and their families on the hill, in place of the Israeli settlement. Basima recalled her memories as a child and young woman in the “al-Janayen” area (the eastern-northern fields) and compared to its miserable situation now adays, and imagined how she would have repaired it had she possessed the power to change realities.
