Ni’mat Joudeh Yakoub

Ni’mat spoke about the role of open and natural spaces in preserving mental health, as well as that of traditional knowledge and skills in enabling security and sovereignty (e.g., bread-making in the absence of bakeries). She wished preserving the rural nature of Ein Qiniya while adding needed basic services and supplies shops, public transportation. She envisioned developing formative and public education and related facilities, as can be seen through her envisioning of expanding the school, establishing sports playgrounds, open spaces, a garden for reading with a library, among others. Ni’mat imagined moving her house to the upper banks and ponds of Wadi alDilb; under the condition of a solution to the pollution of its waters by the overflow from the sewage collection station in alTireh neighborhood in Ramallah.  Although she finds the streets, cleanness, independent houses and landscaped gardens, new neighborhoods around Ramallah impressive; yet, she finds they lack life and “they are for employees only, but not for normal people like us,” and she ended with: “Dear Lord how beautiful it is to imagine!”
