Liberatory Spatial Practices
Through its two main bodies—the Resistance Agricultural Committee and the Popular Incubating Platform—the imagined village develops a range of material and social practices of liberation. These include revolutionary medicine, food and water sovereignty, a zero-waste community, terranean and subterranean infrastructures, a maze-like neighborhood, critical pedagogy, music by and for everyone, and the exchange of local and traditional knowledge.
Spaces of Violence Production
The imagined village also responds to two interconnected processes of weaponization and militarization. These include the weaponization of food and water, the erasure of local land-related knowledge, and technologies and practices of militarization associated with automated apartheid—from surveillance technologies and electronic checkpoints to more internalized forms of control, including self-monitoring, self-regulation, overthinking, and feelings of helplessness.

About the Work
A collectively produced visual banner created through a workshop as part of Mai Al-Battat’s master’s thesis fieldwork (April 2024) with eight interlocutors who imagined the future of Ein Qiniya, a Palestinian village, in 2044/-18. Built from lived realities of militarization and speculative countervisions, the banner brings together drawn, painted, collaged, and fictional figures alongside fragments of Arabic and English text.
The illustration does not translate the participants’ visions literally. Instead, it becomes a visual discussion of them, transforming spoken narratives and local knowledge into spatial and imagined forms.
Figures move subtly along paths already traced by the drawing, allowing multiple relationships and readings to emerge. Concepts such as traditional knowledge, critical pedagogy, revolutionary medicine, and alternative infrastructures appear without explanation—as fragments to encounter, question, and pursue. The work offers no fixed journey through this landscape, but a space in which viewers can wander, discover, and imagine otherwise.
